Young Paddy (Clarence John Ryan) lives as unpaid labour with his Aboriginal family on a vast pastoral property and dreams of being a boxer. It's Western Australia, 1968, a place of few words and even less action, where a nod is as good as a wink and no one questions the status quo. But all this is about to change when Aboriginal workers are awarded a living wage. Director Peter Carstairs' very evocative period piece keeps it all very personal, never allowing the politics to intrude as he explores the dynamics of black-white friendships under stress. A disturbingly contemporary message that shows how little things have changed over the years. Extras: Interviews, commentary and short films.
