In the days before skateboards and Game Boys, we had billycarts and hopscotch. Australians have never needed an excuse to let off steam, whether that means heading to the beach and stripping off - or dolling up in party frocks for a day at the races. Even though we're now working far more hours than we used to and, according to statisticians, failing to take all our allotted holidays, it remains a fundamental part of the Sydney spirit: enjoy life while you can.
