War On Democracy

(M, 96 mins) Hopscotch

It's always a pleasure to listen to a political commentator who's prepared to tell it like it is, and there are few more passionate defenders of justice than our own John Pilger. Here, he homes in like a heat-seeking missile on the shameful history of US involvement in Latin America, a record of malice and human rights violations that has cost tens of thousands of innocent lives. Much of this impressive polemic will be familiar to those with some prior knowledge, yet as he shows in his segment on Venezuela and the ongoing campaign against President Hugo Chavez, the US continues to sponsor the overthrow of anyone who threatens its oil supply. New Zealand must be relieved it doesn't have any. Extras: A ROM version with related articles.
