IDA Thrift, a 63-year-old Branxton grandmother, reckons her childhood was `the good old days'.

She grew up in a time when children had to make their own fun. They played hopscotch, marbles and `knuckles'.

`Everything seems to have changed since I was a little girl,' Mrs Thrift said. `I had chores to do each day, including drying the dishes, feeding the animals and setting the table.'

Mrs Thrift spent two years at North Rothbury school, four years at St Brigid's then went on to high school at St Catherine's for three years.

Clothing styles have also changed: gentlemen wore suits and hats everywhere then.

Ladies wore long dresses ? nothing like the short ones that young girls wear these days.

Mrs Thrift has travelled almost everywhere in Australia except for Western Australia.

Nowadays she enjoys going to bingo and playing golf.
